1978  Lundy Marine Nature Reserve Lundy’s spectacular marine life has been protected since 1973, initially as a Voluntary Marine Nature Reserve. In 1986, it became Britain’s first statutory Marine Nature Reserve.

1979  50th Anniversary of Lundy Post In 1928, the GPO closed their sub-post office on the island. The Island owner, Martin Harman initially provide a free mail service, but on 1 November 1929, to defray costs, he introduced Lundy stamps.

1994  750th Anniversary of Marisco Castle In 1238, William de Marisco was put to death after being implicated in a plot against Henry III.  In order to secure Lundy, Henry III had the castle constructed and garrisoned.  It was completed by May 1244.
