Stamp List Abbreviations

GENERALLY

Gummed Stamps
Gummed are Perforated, unless otherwise noted.

Self-adhesive Stamps
Self-adhesive Stamps are Die-cut with the surplus printing paper either removed (or retained, as noted.
First Issued in [date] as "Peel & Stick Stamps" .  Subsequently changed to Self-adhesive Stamps in [date].

Personalised Stamps


International Stamps
Introduced in 2000 due to the introduction of GST in Australia.



SHEET STAMPS



Single Sheets

An Individual sheet or sheets containing identical stamps.  Stamps with tabs are usually used in Australia Post's Personalised Stamp service.  The opposite of a Composite Sheet.

Composite Sheets

A sheet containing a combination of some or all of the listed stamps, arranged in se-tenant (horizontal or vertical) pairs or strips, blocks, or arranged in the form a visual pattern (e.g., a cross).

Strips, Pairs, etc. are Horizontally orientated, unless noted as Vertical.

Decorative Gutter Strips
A gutter strip with a special decorative design (images, illustrations, text, etc.) relevant to the stamp's theme.
Blank gutter strips, gutter strips containing colour registration marks, and overprinted decorative gutter strips are excluded from this listing.

Gutter Pairs

A gutter strip with a special decorative design (images, illustrations, text, etc.) relevant to the stamp's theme.

Blocks of 4

Blocks of 4 different stamps.

Se-tenant 2x2 Blocks of 4

Blocks of 2 different stamps arranged in a square "checkerboard" pattern.

Other Blocks

This includes such items as 3x3 se-tenant blocks of 3 different stamps and 3x2 blocks



OTHER STAMP TYPES

Coil Stamps

Coil stamps issued from a Post Office vending machine (available 24 hours/day).  Multiple stamps are issued in strips, and are perforated top & bottom. Stamps needed to be manually "torn" from the machine.  Commenced in 1966 and discontinued in 1975.

Roll Stamps

Self-adhesive die-cut stamps on a backing sheet, with the surplus self-adhesive printing paper removed. Typically, in rolls of 100 and/or 200 stamps. 
Rolls of stamps were first issued in May 1990. 



SHEETLETS

Gummed Sheetlets

A smaller sheet of stamps, typically with 10 stamps and usually with a narrow decorative surrounded.
Sheetlets with tabs are suitable for personalisation by Australia Post for a fee.

Self-adhesive Display Sheetlets

The first sheetlet was marketed as a self-service item, intended for counter display at the Post Office with a hole punched in the top edge.

They comprise self-adhesive die-cut stamps on a backing sheet, with the surplus self-adhesive printing paper retained. 

Introduced 1992 & discontinued xxxx.  Replaced by Sheetlets distributed in the form of Checkbooks.

Self-adhesive Sheetlets

The second and current sheetlet are detached from a Chequebooks One short edge is perforated.
Both Sheetlets comprise self-adhesive die-cut stamps on a backing sheet, with the surplus self-adhesive printing paper retained. 

Embellished Sheetlets

Many different embellishments are been produced over the years including adding foil, surface textures, perfumed stamps, and the like.



MINIATURE SHEETS

A small sheet or sheets comprising either a single, pair, block, or a set of different stamps, usually with wider decorative boarder. Several issues have involved Imperforate sheets.

Yearbook Miniature Sheets and Sheetlets

These are official issues from exclusive to Australia Post's Annual Year Books.  First released in 2000 and then yearly from 2004 to 2019, with a Miniature sheet and a Sheetlet released in 2012, and three Sheetlets released in 2016...a total of 20 releases.

Booklets with Special Sheet Stamps

Booklets with Perforated Gummed Booklet Stamps

First introduced in xxxx.

These Booklets comprising specifically printed panes of gummed perforated stamps (usually imperforate on one or more sides).  Typically issued in booklets of 10 or 20 stamps.
Booklets comprising either 10 or 20 stamps detached from a Chequebooks of 20 booklets.  Booklets of 10 are usually folded into two; and booklets of 20 are usually folded into three.  Sometimes referred to as "wallet booklets"

Booklets with Self-adhesive Die-cut Booklet Stamps

This type of booklet was introduced in xxxx.

They comprising self-adhesive die-cut stamps on a backing sheet, with the surplus self-adhesive printing paper retained. They are supplied to Post Offices in the form of "Checkbooks", and sold separately.  They are then intended to be folded into three for convenient and safe storage in pockets wallets , or purses.

Prestige Booklets

First Introduced in 1997 with the Classic Australian Cars issue.  Approximately 150 issued in conjunction with selected stamp releases have been issued to date.

Booklets are sold at a premium above face value, contain mini-sheets of stamps (often in different combinations such as pairs, blocks, etc.) interspersed between information pages.

AFL Souvenir Booklets, some Souvenir Booklets, some Zodiac Booklets, Stories in Stamps Booklets, and the like that do not contain stamps related to a specific issue are not listed in this website

Chequebooks

Chequebooks are primarily for Post Office counter staff to dispense both Individual Sheetlets of 5 and Booklets of 10 & 20 (all supplied flat as detached from the Chequebook). They contain either 100, 200, or 400 stamps.  They are available to the public by mail order.
Their use commenced in xxxx.

Vending Machine Booklets

Gummed stamps, sides imperforate and top and bottom either rouletted or perforated.  Their use commenced in 1985 and were discontinued in 1996.

ATM booklets

ATM Sheetlets were available at selected bank Automatic Teller Machines.  Their use commenced in 1994 and were discontinued in 1998.



SELF-PRINTED STAMPS

Frama Labels


Gummed imperforate machine printed labels (no backing sheet) with values based on four button values (three of which have set values). 
Commenced in 1984 and discontinued in 2003.

Counter Printed Stamps
Machine printed stamps on a strip of backing sheet. 
Commenced in 1993 and discontinued by 2001.
