BADEN  (Baden)
The Pre-Roman State of Baden became the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1806. 
Four Different Stamp Types of various Denominations were issued between 1851 & 1871.
In 1872, the stamps of the Grand Duchy of Baden were replaced by those of the German Empire. 
Baden is now part of the German State of Baden-Württemberg.

BAVARIA  1849 - 1920
Bavaria (Bayern) became the Duchy of Bavaria in the 6th century AD following the collapse of the Western Roman Empire.
It was later incorporated into the Holy Roman Empire, became the independent Kingdom of Bavaria after 1806.
Eighteen different Stamp Types of various Denominations were issued between 1851 & 1871, and Six German Empire Stamp Types were overprinted in 1919.
After the fall of the Bavarian Socialist Republic in 1919, the Bamberg Constitution was enacted creating the Free State of Bavaria within the Weimar Republic.

BERGEDORF  (Bergedorf)
Bergedorf belonged jointly to the Free Cities of Hamburg & Lübeck from 1420 to 1867.
Between 1861 & 1867 Bergedorf issued its own stamp, incorporating the Coat of Arms of Hamburg & Lübeck.
From 1868 the stamps of Bergedorf were replaced by those of the North German Confederation.
Bergedorf is now a Province of the German State of Hamburg.

In 1866 the Kingdom of Hannover was annexed by and became a province of the Kingdom of Prussia.
In 1866 the stamps of Hannover were replaced by those of the Kingdom of Prussia, and later by those of the North German Confederation.
Hannover is now the capital of the current German State of Lower Saxony.

Ethnic German Helgoland was last controlled by Great Britain, but in 1890 became part of the old State of Schleswig-Holstein.
