Postal History of Saarland
In July 1945, US Military Forces turned Saarland over to the French to Administer.
In 1946, the French Military Administration segregated Saarland from the Allied Occupation Zones and established the separate Saar Protectorate.
The Saar continued as a French Protectorate until 1st January 1957, when it became a State of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Between 1957 and 1959, Saarland continued to issue its own Postage Stamps, denominated in Francs and Centimes.
On 7 July 1959, Saarland stamps were replaced by West German Deutsche Mark Stamps.
